WHAT IS WORSE THAN KNOWING THE TRUTH?
The problem is that freedom of speech cannot be tested against anything. That under that notion of freedom, the touchstone of what is true and what is not has fallen away. Way trapt like the chair under a suicide bomber. Anyone may proclaim their own narrative of their views through social platforms like Facebook or X. the global lie factories of neoliberalism. Fact-free and preferably loudly concerned, here was a rural minister of one of the 5,500 different Christian congregations and sects that make up North America. Or the that the truth consists of the rutting lure of one of uncountable splinter groups with neo-Nazi sympathies. Whose main goal seems to be; to make America as great again as it is white!
Expressions of antisocial outrage are only hindered by the penal code when it comes to hate speech, group insult or slander. Offenses that can only be judged by the courts when the harm is already high and dry. Whereby the media coverage of even the “serious” news channels nowadays is so great that offensive or hateful expressions are offered a stage that far exceeds their original scope. Partly because of this overwhelmed uncensored media coverage with their pathological neurosis for ratings, the issues in facts are blown up into the bizarre bubbles in which the difference between good and bad truth and lie falls away against corporate interest. May be dashed away against that because pragmatically; Erst das Fressen, dann die Moral. An expression of moral decay to which the lie owes its genesis.
Googling what is true is nowadays part of the normal media strategies of questionable figures like Elon Musk or his bosom friend Donald Trump. A “man” who, as a good Christian, one can only hope that choking on his lies will not be a cause of his death!
What travels with me is the strong suspicion that the lies and the selling of them bring or generate more profit than the, increasingly difficult to find out the facts. That by causing a storm in a glass of water the mouth overflows with the lies the heart is full of. You as a single person have to search for the factual circumstances that in combination lift a glimpse of the veil of truth this search does have to be undertaken because the so touted Artificial Intelligence, the hope for humanity’s future seems to be contaminated with unprecedented amounts of fake news and bases its answers on it.
I am almost beginning to long for those good old days of Christian morality, when conscious and useful lying was a privilege reserved only for God the Lord, with the proviso that the lie told served to prevent worse. Which automatically begs the question with me, what could be worse than knowing the truth?
