OVER DE ANGST ALS DE  DOEM VAN HET GEZONDE VERSTAND !

    With the coming to power of none worse than Donald Trump* next January 20, I am holding my heart with my left hand. The right one I hold in good custom like a barrier of civic decency in front of my mouth to suppress the already year-long tickling cough in my throat caused by what I consider the zero-sum gain of Geert Wilders the blond-haired flip-flop carrier and philosemite of the same autocratic ideology. And, as a traditional hoarder, assure myself of a nice slightly addictive winter supply of Natterman Bronchicum forte brand cough medicine. Meanwhile, consider myself fortunate that I still have just enough common sense meat left to analyze the felt crisis situation. Not to avoid mistakes, but to limit the damage. By not swimming with the mainstream. Or fishing in the murky Jordan water for the answer to the impertinent but increasingly unavoidable question; whether an entire people misled by their 3,000 year old book to begin with should remain in the same crisis atmosphere of an unprocessed history trauma, the nie wieder. This to the same extent as their executioners 80 years ago delivered it to them in the concentration camps as a war crime ? Why can they not cleanse themselves spiritually by getting rid of the disproportionate magnification of the delusion that the chosen people’s existence is threatened at all times? I am fortunately still just managing to use my God-, YHWH- or Allah-given intelligence to discover the major patterns, references to, underlying causes and underlying connections as the cracked mirror of my inability to change anything about it. improve the world I live in as a solitary. The only thing I am still capable of; is to refuse to concern myself with the ghastly futilities, the countless attention-seeking details that obstruct the view of the why of the existing reality through the thick gray-gray fog of populism.

    ANALYSIS OF WHAT HAS BECOME NORMAL

    The democratic state system, in this essay at least, rests on two fundamental ideas; Thus, not on the right of the people to cast their votes, because for me, an accidental amalgamation of individuals has no underlying nexus that labels them a people. Or it should be the together borne sufferings of repopulation. Democracy, in this argument, rests on individualism and a certain degree of self-restraint, an inner balance of mutually canceling contradictions based on what elderly intellectuals now, for the age of European enlightenment call “reason. A term that I prefer to translate somewhat more broadly and somewhat pragmatically with; a weighted and balanced understanding based on common sense that leads to the fewest mistakes. Whereby I do not want to gloss over, neglect nor condemn the making of mistakes as a necessity within a learning process. Seeing this necessity as emotionally the most feasible and need-based quest for the good for most of us.* A way of thinking that bears some affinity to utilitarianism* from the eighteenth century. A current in philosophy especially popular in England the emigration country par excellence. A dead-end alley in philosophical thought that tried in vain to figure out exactly how to act to bring about the greatest well-being or enjoyment and the least pain for the largest group of the population. (without discounting the positive thought aspects of early capitalism). The philosophical impossibility of saving coal and suds for the good of both the white rich and the poor black goat. Which failed because it could not prove but had to assume the condition of a moral compass as conscience so as not to fall into contradiction.

    INDIVIDUALISM;

    A liberal individualism that effectively excludes any form of association or cooperation with the other that is seen especially by classical liberals as the driving force behind the self-initiative that is the only one that allows continuous growth of the economy . From it derives its all-important importance. Without making the individual really richer in mentality or morally. Although the morally poor rich claim otherwise.

    Yet an overemphasis on the complacency of individualism, the idea that everything figuratively speaking revolves around the salvation of one’s own soul, an idea for which the Catholic Church can be considered a trailblazer, the absolutized rights of the individual, can be an opposing force in and for the democratic system. Especially if it is not matched by self-discipline as a moral force. A force based on a truly liberated free will. Separate from God’s and from the hopscotch in thinking that free will is at the root of all sin. The belief of many Calvinists that rarely led to a life of happiness free of sin. Or the modern variants; my will is God’s law or I want God to want what I want, which could have been recorded right out of Donald Trump’s mouth if the blowhard had possessed more self-knowledge.

    THE DEMOCRATION

    Again and again, what constitutes the inner strength of democracy is also its weakness. That for freedom and equality for all, the will to accept not only political equality and the conditions under which alone one can feel free are first necessary. But an answer must also be found to the question of whether an equality accepted on ideal grounds also leads to an equal capacity to trade in all respects. Something mostly lacking now among both voters and politicians without much knowledge of methodology.

    In which an idea of equivalence as a compromise of natural law with positive law on the basis of respect, the shared care one has for each other is paramount. In addition to the defense of human dignity. It sounds to most like the utopia of reason! Yet those who lack faith , abandon all hope for the future!

    That democracy and its associated values require not only a long period of learning, but also cultural adaptation to the differences in nature of the respective cultures is still controversial. Contested by many! Customized adjustments not only within Western society, but worldwide. Now too much predominates the idea of Western democracy as alone and all-blissful. It is this thinking in and emphasis on isolated concepts separate from their coherence and connection that provides the fodder for a growing divide. A division that makes the necessary plurality of thought, the possibility of coming to acceptance even if one does not agree one hundred percent with the disputes impossible, entrenched as everyone sits in their own bunker that counts as their own bubble of truth. Makes reaching out to each other impossible.

    That a democracy requires not only freedom of religion, but also respect for faith that derives from more than historical or scientific knowledge. That faith based on hope and trust in the search for meaning and truth is as important for democracy as for any denomination. Now, certainly among liberals there is still too much of the idea, an atheist is better. Which is only true if one does not consider or have knowledge of the positive aspects of a religious life that spiritually encompasses more more than subscribing to and adhering to church laws and customs.

    THE POLEMICS

    Today, it seems that the aggregation on social media of merely emotionally reactive individuals* with “twisted” ideas about the danger of dissenters and other cultures is undermining democracy in a fraction of the time it took to establish it. Not only by fueling the polemic between left and right, but especially by losing sight of the dialectical necessity of the polemic. Namely, to arrive at a common position after a vigorous debate a free exchange of arguments for and against. To what used to be called an amalgamation. This one-sided approach to polemic as a weapon of attack, the bayonet of one’s own right in order to make one’s own opinion prevail, also underscores the emphasis on the necessity of an ongoing but confusing struggle. As if the right of the strongest also automatically leads to the right. The morally happiest action.

    This is what I see in current government policy. Certainly from the parties on the right side of the political spectrum and their following of patriotic warriors. A constant emphasis on the divide and an unwillingness to reach a mutually satisfactory solution. Rather the fight for the sake of the fight. Glorifying violence for the sake of violence because only a total purge literally eliminates further opposition . Because we still live in a rule of law where it is forbidden to liquidate dissenters by force, for as long as they are not in power all energy the entire political effort goes into building a Maginot line of air castles. Undermining the rule of law by the rabbits This in defense against the imaginary danger of migration. Without thereby solving the current housing shortage, the manure problem or building a more livable future anyway.

    What I see happening is a step by step devious undermining of the rule of law. The creation of uncertainties by playing on fears in which the only salvation for the individual detached from his moral compass consists of opting for a contemporary form or variant of eternal patrimonialism*. A system that is like the proverbial axe at the root of the fall of every great state. It is the solution of the petty bourgeois in spirit who live in and benefit from a one-dimensional image of one’s own time the own narrow-minded thinking of the Biedermeier style of the twenty-first century . But no one dares to say; for how long.

    NOTES;

    • Donald Trump; for me the harbinger of the downfall of the Occident.

    * criticism of utilitarianism; the mindset would lead to a social and economic conservatism or nihilism , and have little or no regard for the rights of minorities. While the chance factors in pleasure and pain are not taken into account as a source of action.

    *Knowledge of things is needed to reduce to an acceptable minimum the making of mistakes in a kind of distillation process.

    *From the assumption that self-consciousness which for each individual as an ongoing unstoppable process is both timeless and directionless cannot compare itself to itself nor doubt itself and therefore cannot develop a measure or measure of comparison for its own morality as the source of its being separate from everything else, it follows that the good exists only in relation to others who ( however superficially and generically) provide the comparative material.

    * patrimonialism; a political system in which the different classes have their own role and enjoy different privileges. A degree of contribution to politics as an abstract sociopolitical system based on reciprocity. Usually based on family ties in the broadest sense of the word. The quid pro quo principle, which is only possible as the second law of political dynamics (from top to bottom-down) in an unequal distribution of the means of subsistence what constitutes an important part of the means of power as a supplier of subsistence . Where essentially loyalty is bought by perpetuating the existing power relations by making them work in part for the benefit of the underlying party. In this, the leader is seen as a substitute for the pater familias. The leader of the people, part of whose task is to continue the extended family (the people) as an economic unit and political power factor in order to remain in power himself. If possible for several generations of the same family.
